No. 5 Texas A&M Splits Saturday’s Twin Bill
Feb 15, 2025 | Softball
CLEARWATER, Fla. – The No. 5 Texas A&M softball team beat Virginia, 4-3, in extra innings after falling to No. 10 Oklahoma State, 6-5, in game one of Saturday's twin bill at the Shriners Children's Clearwater Invitational at the Eddie C. Moore Complex.
Down 2-0 to Virginia (4-4), Texas A&M (9-1) plated a run in the fifth and sixth innings to even the score, which followed with a scoreless seventh frame as the game headed to extra innings. With DeeDee Baldwin placed at second base due to the international tie-breaker rule, Koko Wooley doubled to left center for A&M's first lead before Mya Perez drove in Wooley for an insurance run.
Leading 4-2 in the eighth, the Cavaliers cut the deficit in half with a two-out RBI double. Kate Munnerlyn entered the circle and walked the first batter she faced before striking out the final batter looking to earn her first career save.
Aggie starter Sidne Peters earned her third win of the season after going 7.2 innings and striking out six batters, while yielding four hits, one earned run and one walk.
In game one of the day, the Aggies broke the ice after Frankie Vrazel hit a 2-RBI double to left center and Allie Enright followed with an RBI single up the middle to give the Aggies a 3-0 lead after two innings. All-American Emiley Kennedy tossed 3.0 hitless innings before Oklahoma State (4-3) blooped a single to leadoff the fourth, followed by a double to left center. The Cowgirls scratched the board with a sac fly and single to make it a 3-2 game after four innings of action.
The Maroon & White added a run in the fifth and sixth innings to take a 5-2 lead into the bottom half of the seventh. After a forced groundout, the Cowgirls strung together back-to-back singles, followed by a two-RBI double and a two-run home run to end the game, 6-5.
Kennedy (4-1) suffered her first loss after going 6.2 innings and striking out five, while allowing six runs on seven hits.
