No. 9 Aggies Split Doubleheader vs. Seminoles, Cardinals
Feb 23, 2025 | Men's Tennis
BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – The No. 9 Texas A&M men's tennis team split a pair matches on Sunday, dropping a 4-2 decision to Florida State in the early match and defeating Lamar, 4-1, in the nightcap.
The Aggies' rally against the Seminoles fell just short when freshman Theo Papamalamis dropped a second-set tie-breaker, 7-4, to end his quest for a third set at court 1, 6-3, 7-5. On court 5 junior Togan Tokac had an early lead in the third set, but the match was left unfinished.
After Florida State had raced to a 3-0 lead by taking the doubles point and winning at court 6 and court 3, the Aggies charged back into the match with a pair of wins of their own. Sophomore Tiago Pires got the Aggies on the board with a gutty 7-6 (7), 6-3 win over Erik Schiessl at court 4. Senior JC Roddick kept the momentum going by rebounding from a first-set loss to roll past No. 43 Jamie Connel, 3-6, 6-1, 6-1.
The Maroon & White rebounded for the win against Cardinals, 4-1. Lathan Skrobarcek and Ethan Silva, seeing his first action of the season, opened strong for the Aggies on court 3, claiming the victory, 6-2. Damien Salvestre and Tiago Pires followed behind on court 1 to secure the doubles point, 6-4, in Salvestres' first win since donning the Maroon & White.
Graduate Matthis Ross was untouchable during singles action, going 6-0, 6-0 on court 3 to put the Aggies up 2-0 early in the match.
No. 42 Theo Papamalamis found his rhythm on court 1 after a loss earlier today, putting Texas A&M on point away of clinching, 6-2, 6-1. Lamar then struck on court 4 to gain its only point of the night.
Sophomore Lathan Skrobarcek saw his first singles action of the season and clinched the match for the Aggies on court 6, 6-3, 6-3.

COACH'S QUOTES
Head coach Steve Denton on the loss in the morning…
"It was not what we wanted in the first match, but a very good lesson for the guys today. Give Florida State credit for playing good doubles today and staying on top of us today. They won the majority of the big points today, and that was ultimately the difference out there."
Denton on Skrobarcek, Ross, and Silva seeing their first action…
"I am very happy for Lathan, Ethan and Matt getting a chance tonight. It was a great opportunity for them to get the chance to show what they can do."
