Women’s Basketball Drops Road Test at Auburn

AUBURN – Despite a career-high 21 points from Solè Williams, the Texas A&M women's basketball team was on the wrong end of a 65-52 decision in Thursday's game against the Auburn Tigers inside Neville Arena.
Williams recorded career-best in made 3-point field goals, sinking 5-of-7 (.714). She added four rebounds, one assist and one steal.
Janae Kent chipped in with 15 points, including three 3-pointers, and seven rebounds – both career highs. Jones pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds.
Williams was the Aggies' only offense early on with her second 3-point field goal giving Texas A&M a 6-4 lead at the 5:03 mark of the first quarter. The Maroon & White managed one more bucket the remainder of the period, a layup by Kyndall Hunter, as Auburn built a 12-8 advantage at the first break.
The Tigers scored the first four baskets of the second quarter to build a 20-8 edge at the halfway point. Despite holding Auburn to just one field goal the remainder of the half, Texas A&M went into the locker room trailing 28-14.
After the Tigers' lead ballooned to 21 points, the Maroon & White offense showed signs of life with Jada Malone scoring five points in an 8-0 run to cut the deficit to 42-29 at the 3:03 mark of the third quarter. Auburn went into the last break up 47-32.
A 9-0 run to start the fourth quarter gave the Tigers a 56-32 cushion at the 7:25 mark. The Aggies made a late run with Kent scoring 11 of her points, hitting three 3-pointers. Unfortunately, they were unable cut the margin under 15 points until Williams scored the last five points of the game in the final 1:05, including her fifth trifecta.
The Aggies return home to take on Missouri at 3 p.m. inside Reed Arena Sunday in their annual BTHO Breast Cancer game.
