Late Rally Propels No. 6 Texas A&M Past No. 24 Alabama, 5-4
Mar 21, 2025 | Softball
BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – A pair of sixth-inning home runs rallied No. 6 Texas A&M past No. 24 Alabama, 5-4, in the series opener Friday night at Davis Diamond.
Trailing 4-2 in the sixth, Texas A&M (25-4, 5-2 SEC) rallied as Mya Perez led off with a solo jack and Amari Harper singled before Mac Barbara rocketed a two-run home to give the Aggies their first lead of the game, 5-4. The Crimson Tide threatened in the final frame as the first two batters reached base before Ol' Sarge's defense held strong with a lineout, fielder's choice and popup to calm the tide.
Sidne Peters moved to 7-0 on the season finishing 3.0 scoreless innings and striking out three, while giving no free bases and only two hits.
Alabama (21-11, 1-3 SEC) hung a crooked fifth frame plating three runs on three hits with no outs. Down 4-1, Peters entered the circle limiting the damage with two strikeouts and a groundout. Frankie Vrazel led off the bottom half with a single and advanced to second on a passed ball before stealing third base. Koko Wooley drove in Vrazel with an RBI-groundout to cut the deficit in half, 4-2, after five innings.
After a pair of scoreless innings to start the game, Alabama struck first with a sac fly in the third. The Aggies punched back in the fourth stringing together consecutive two-out singles from Perez and Harper, before Barbara drove in pinch-runner Kelsey Mathis as the game headed to the fifth knotted at 1-1.
