Aggies Claim Series Opener at No. 2 Arkansas, 7-4
Apr 17, 2025 | Baseball
FAYETTEVILLE – Behind a dominant performance in relief from Weston Moss, the Texas A&M baseball team downed No. 2 Arkansas, 7-4, in the series opener Thursday night at Baum-Walker Stadium.
The win stretched the Aggies' (22-15, 7-9) win streak to eight games and marked their third straight victory against a Top 2 opponent on the road.
Out of the bullpen, Moss (5-2) tossed five scoreless frames and racked up five strikeouts en route to the win. Over his last 17 1/3 innings, the right-hander has allowed only one run and struck out 23 batters. Starter Ryan Prager earned a no-decision after allowing four runs over four innings of work.
After the Aggies struck first in the opening frame with an RBI single from Caden Sorrell, the Razorbacks answered with two runs of their own in the bottom half to take a 2-1 advantage.
The Maroon & White continued to put pressure on the Arkansas starter in the second as they loaded the bases with only one out. Following an RBI fielder's choice from LaViolette that evened the score, Henseler put Texas A&M back in front with a two-out, two-run double to left center.
In the third, the Razorbacks used a two-run homer to center to tie the game at 4-4.
The Aggies responded in the fifth as Kent plated Sorrell, who reached on a leadoff walk, with an infield RBI single. Blake Binderup followed with an RBI fielder's choice to bring home Bear Harrison, extending the Maroon & White lead to 6-4.
LaViolette added insurance in the ninth with an opposite field solo home run to left. The long ball marked the junior's team-leading 12th of the season.
In the bottom half, Moss worked around a pair of singles to seal the win for the Maroon & White.
Inside the Box Score
The Aggies and Razorbacks conclude the series Friday with a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. at Baum-Walker Stadium.
