TEXAS A&M QUOTES
Head Coach Brian Kortan
On accomplishing the first goal of making it to match play...
"We've done a heck of a job. From Mike (Heidelbaugh) getting us started on Wednesday to P (Phichaksn Maichon), Wheaton (Ennis) and Aaron (Pounds) getting things going the last two rounds, it's been a solid effort. You don't get here without a good room and our room is pretty good. Our guys played their tails off, so I'm really proud of them for getting us to match play again."
On being the only team to make the match play round all eight seasons it has been used at the SEC Championship...
"It speaks to the effort our guys put in and the value they place on this week. Obviously we have really talented guys that care about each other and really want to do well. As coaches (Matt) Fast and I work hard on trying to get these guys ready for these moments. That's what we use the whole season for. From the time we start in August to hopefully finishing up next month at La Costa, we use that as an opportunity to grow and coach. These guys have accepted it and they believe in our vision as coaches. We're fortunate to work with some really talented guys, but they're also a great group of young men and it's awesome to see them be successful."
On how well Phichaskn Maichon played over the week...
"Once he got settled in this week he's been solid. That's kind of how he is. His superpower is how he plays tee to green. And when he gets comfortable with the putter in his hands, he really has an opportunity to shoot good scores. We've been fortunate the last few years to have an elite player at the top of the lineup. He took the reins from Sammy (Bennett) and has run with them. He knows what he means to us and the other guys, so he plays hard for them. It's awesome to see him play well at his last SEC Championship."
