Aggie Men Break Distance Medley Relay School Record on Second Day of Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA – The Texas A&M Track & Field men's distance medley relay team broke the school record and secured the ninth-best mark in NCAA history on the second day of the Penn Relays Friday at Franklin Field.
The men's DMR highlighted a podium filled day for the Maroon & White, as the quartet of Luca Santorum, Cutler Zamzow, Sam Whitmarsh and Cooper Cawthra clocked a mark of 9:26.83 which broke the previous school record by over eight seconds and ranks the team ninth in NCAA history in the event.
Kickstarting the momentum on the track for the day was the women's 4x100m group including Latasha Smith, Camryn Dickson, Bria Bullard and Jasmine Montgomery as the team won heat two in 44.05 which ranked as the No. 1 time in the event and advances them as the top qualifier to Saturday's final. The men's squad followed suit, as Ernest Campbell, Mason Mangum, Blake Holland and Ja'Qualon Scott placed second in 39.71 to ensure their finals spot.
The 4x400m teams also punched tickets to tomorrow's finals, as Eric Hemphill III, Zamzow, Auhmad Robinson and Kimar Farquharson finished second in the men's event in 3:05.14, while Smith, Dickson, Montgomery and Jaydan Wood placed fourth in 3:33.11.
The Aggie hurdlers put on a show for the crowd at Franklin Field, as they punched three tickets to Saturday's finals and swept the first-place finishes on both the men's and women's sides. Jaiya Covington and Jasmine Harmon got the group going, as Covington topped heat 1 in 13.00 which held as the No. 1 mark in the prelims, while Harmon won heat three and advanced fifth overall. Ja'Qualon Scott claimed the No. 1 spot to the finals after claiming the opening heat with a mark of 13.50.
The men's relay groups captured another pair of top-three finishes, as Holland, Hemphill, Mangum and Robinson finished second in the 4x200m in 1:22.23, while Campbell, Holland, DeMarco Escobar and Caden Norris claimed third in the sprint medley relay with a time of 3:16.68.
