Aggies Named No. 2 Seed at Auburn Regional

INDIANAPOLIS – The No. 12 Texas A&M men's golf team heads to Alabama to open NCAA Tournament play, earning a spot in the Auburn Regional which will be contest May 12-14.
The Aggies claimed the No. 2 seed in the 13-team regional played at the par-72, 7,326-yard course.
Texas A&M is making its 50th NCAA postseason appearance, including spots in 21 of the last 22 tournaments. The NCAA has hosted regionals since 1989 and the Maroon & White have earned 32 trips in that span.
The Aggies and host Tigers are the only two SEC teams in the field. Three Big 10 make the trip to Alabama, including UCLA, Oregon and Purdue. SMU and TCU add some more Lone Star State flavor. The other combatants are Georgia Tech, Little Rock, Charleston, New Mexico State, Loyola Maryland and USC Upstate.
The top five teams at each of the NCAA's six regionals advance to the NCAA Championship at Omni La Costa Resort and Spa in Carlsbad, California. The national championship is slated for May 23-28.
Texas A&M is amid a successful 2023-24 campaign. The Maroon & White own three tournament wins, including the Furman Intercollegiate, Sea Best Invitational and Aggie Invitational. They finished as runners-up at three tournaments – the Qubein Cup, Louisiana Classics and SEC Championship.
The Maroon & White enter NCAA play with four of their players reaching their highest ranking of the season. Phichaksn Maichon, who owns individual titles at the Sea Best Invitational and Aggie Invitational is slotted No. 18 in the Scoreboard Rankings powered by Clippd. Other A&M players on the rise include Wheaton Ennis (No. 83), Michael Heidelbaugh (No. 115) and Aaron Pounds (No. 169).
The Auburn University Club takes golfers on a frolicking adventure through 225 acres of undulating hills and scenic woodlands. Former Auburn golfer Bill Bergin designed the course in 1999 and oversaw a renovation in 2022. The makeover included new Tift Eagle greens, 12 new tee boxes and 12 new bunkers. The course boasts of being challenging, yet playable and welcoming for all levels of golfers.
