TUSCALOOSA – The No. 2 Texas A&M women's tennis team put a bow on the road portion of its SEC slate with a 4-0 dismantling of the Crimson Tide Sunday at the Baumgardner Indoor Tennis Facility.
Texas A&M secured one of the top two spots in the SEC Tournament and head into the last weekend of the regular season with a 21-2 overall mark and 12-1 league ledger. The Maroon & White are one match behind Georgia in the standings with two matches to play and a clash between the two top teams in the conference finale.
The Aggies pounced early to win the doubles point. No. 39 Mary Stoiana/Lucciana Perez sacked Petra Sedlackova/Maria Martinez Vaquero, 6-1, on court 1. No. 65 Mia Kupres/Daria Smetannikov topped Maria Andrienko/Sara Nayar, 6-2, on court 2.
No. 57 Kupres was the first to clock out in singles action. She menaced Maria Martinez-Vaque on court 3, 6-1, 6-4, staking the Aggies to a 2-0 lead. Kupres improved to 19-5, including 16-3 in dual action.
No. 2 Stoiana topped No. 64 Sedlackova, 6-1, 6-3 on court 1. The Southbury, Connecticut, bolstered her record to 22-4 on the year, including 18-4 in ranked matchups.
No. 11 Khirin closed out the match with 7-6(3), 6-1 victory over Maria Andrienko on court 2. Khirin raised her mark to 27-5 on the season, including 15-2 in dual matches.
