Track & Field Splits Travel Between John Thomas Terrier Classic and PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – The Texas A&M track & field team returns to the road, as it splits travel between the John Thomas Terrier Classic held at the Boston University Track & Tennis Center and the PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational held at the Norton Healthcare Sport and Learning Center, Jan. 30-31.
The Aggies prepare for their second road weekend of the season following an outstanding performance at the Ted Nelson Invitational. The group broke one school record, won 17 events and recorded nine marks on the all-time performers list.
Henry Zimmerman surpassed his previous school record in his second appearance as an Aggie with a toss of 22.10m/72-6.25 to win the men's weight throw. He's currently ranked 14th nationally in the event and fifth in the SEC.
The women set the tone on the track, capturing seven wins spearheaded by Sophia Bendet in the mile crossing the line 4:46.05 to improve her No. 9 ranking to No. 6 in the A&M all-time performers list. The remaining wins over the weekend came from Machaeda Linton in the 60m (7:32), Tharushi Karunarathna in the 800m (2:10.32), Camryn Dickson in the 200m (23.24), while Debora Cherono topped the 3,000m with a mark of 9:23.90 entering the A&M record book at No. 4. The sixth win came from the distance medley relay team with the No. 8 mark in the A&M record books of 11:33.00 and finally the 4x400m group finished in 3:37.30.
Adding five wins to the tally were the men on the track, as Ja'Qualon Scott crossed the line in 7.59 in the 60m hurdles. The momentum continued on the oval from Auhmad Robinson in the 400m (45.97), Peter Narumbe in the 800m (1:47.24) which entered his name at No. 7 in the Texas A&M record book and ranks No. 1 in the country this year, Youssef Asslouj in the 3,000m who logged a mark of 8:05.98 moving him to No. 9 in the A&M all-time list and finally the men's 4x400m relay team (3:07.27).
The Aggies tacked on a final two victories in the field, as Micah Larry had a standout performance in the men's long jump with a leap of 7.86m/25-9.50 to enter his name at No. 5 in the A&M record book, while Morgan Davis won the women's event with a jump of 6.14m/20-1.75.
Texas A&M dished out two other record-book performances, as Joyce Kemboi ran a personal-best time of 9:24.08 in the 3,000m where she now sits at fifth all time. Etoro Bassey then leaped into 12th in the men's high jump with a personal-best mark of 2.14m/7.25.
