Aggies Selected to Host First Round of WBIT Thursday Versus McNeese
Mar 15, 2026 | Women's Basketball
INDIANAPOLIS – The Texas A&M women's basketball team was selected to the 2026 WBIT field Sunday as a No. 1 seed and will host McNeese at Reed Arena Thursday, March 19 with time to be determined, the organization announced.
Tickets can be purchased at 12thmanfoundation.com/tickets when available. If the Maroon & White are victorious in the first round, they will host the winner of the San Diego State and UC Irvine matchup Sunday, March 22 inside Reed Arena.
The Aggies were one of the "First Four Out" of the NCAA tournament bracket, thus earning an automatic spot as a top four seed in the WBIT.
The Maroon & White ended the season as one of the hottest in the country, winning six of their final seven games of the regular season. Highlighting the run was three ranked victories and five straight heading into the SEC Tournament.
Texas A&M is led by All-SEC Second Teamer Ny'Ceara Pryor who is on pace to become the first player since the turn of the century to average at least 16.0 points, 7.0 assists and 3.5 steals per game for a season. The SEC All-Defensive Team selection was the shortest player in conference history to be voted to the squad at 5-3. Pryor led the league in steals per game (3.5) and was just the third player in SEC history to register multiple steals in all 16 games of league play.
This marks the Aggies' first appearance in the WBIT. Previously, the Maroon & White participated in the NWIT (1995) and WNIT (2005). Texas A&M's NWIT appearance in the mid-1990s resulted in a championship.
Head Coach Joni Taylor Statement
"We firmly believe that our resume was one that was worthy of an NCAA Tournament bid. I am extremely proud of our team for their resilience and for never giving up during the season. Although we are disappointed to not be selected to participate in March Madness, we are extremely excited to compete for a championship in the WBIT. We will respond like we have all year, the right way.
12th Man, we need you at Reed Arena this Thursday. Your support has meant everything to this team throughout the year, and we look forward to playing in front of the best fans in the country."
