SAN ANTONIO – The Texas A&M track & field team won four event titles on the opening day of the UTSA Invitational Friday at the Park West Athletics Complex.
The Maroon & White opened the meet on top, as Sam Hankins captured the men's javelin title in his first meet since recovering from injury in 2024. The senior recorded a toss of 71.16m/233-6 in the second round which held throughout the meet for the victory. The women put on a dominant showing when they entered the runway, as the Aggies swept the podium spots. Katelyn Fairchild, in similar fashion to Hankins, won the event in her first meet in over a year with a mark of 56.59m/185-8, while her sister McKenzie Fairchild finished second (48.52m/159-2) and Ana De La Garza took third (47.58m/156-1).
Khybah Dawson continued the momentum in the field, tacking on the third victory of the day in the men's long jump. The senior was sitting in second before his final attempt and delivered when it mattered, as he leapt 7.84m/25-8.75 which matched his all-conditions best.
Carlie Weiser added the final victory of the day in the women's shot put, as the junior tossed 16.02m/52-6.75 in the second round to claim the fourth win of the meet for A&M.
Jayla Hooper made her debut for the Maroon & White and hit the ground running, landing at No. 5 in the hammer throw all-time list for the Aggies after a toss of 55.89m/183-4 which was good for fourth in the event.
