Apr 25, 2026 | Softball
COLUMBIA, S.C. – The No. 10 Texas A&M softball evened the series at No. 24 South Carolina with a 2-1 victory Saturday at Carolina Softball Stadium behind a complete-game effort from Sydney Lessentine.
Lessentine (14-3) struck out three and held the Gamecocks to a .120 batting average (3-for-25), including 0-for-9 with runners on base. The sophomore allowed just one leadoff batter to reach and did not permit multiple baserunners in an inning.
Micaela Wark hit her team-leading 19th home run, while Mya Perez drove in the other run on a hit-by-pitch. Kennedy Powell recorded multiple hits for the second time in the series, and Frankie Vrazel added two hits and scored a run.
Texas A&M (35-13, 15-5 SEC) opened the scoring in the third inning. Vrazel and Powell singled and Kelsey Mathis walked to load the bases before Perez was hit by a pitch to give the Aggies a 1-0 lead with one out. South Carolina (28-22, 6-14 SEC) got a force out at home on a fielder's choice and ended the inning with a swinging strikeout.
Wark led off the fourth with a solo home run to right-center to extend the lead to 2-0. The Gamecocks answered with a solo homer in the bottom half to cut the deficit to 2-1.
Lessentine closed the door from there, earning the win. She threw first-pitch strikes to nine of the 12 batters she faced to close out the game.
