Roman Gomez is entering his third season as a Strength & Conditioning Assistant, working directly with Texas A&M Baseball and his first with Equestrian.
Gomez joined Texas A&M after serving as a strength and conditioning coach with the Baltimore Orioles at their Dominican Academy in Boca Chica, Dominican Republic. He assisted in the development of three All-Stars and four of the Orioles' Top 30 prospects for 2022: Braylin Tavera (21), Aron Estrada (23), Edwin Amparo (29), and Leandro Arias (30). During his time with the Orioles, Gomez coached at various training camps as the Orioles were voted Major League Baseball’s #1 Minor League Pipeline for 2022. Prior to working with Baltimore, Gomez spent time working with Clemson University's Olympic Sports Performance department in the Fall of 2021.
He began his strength and conditioning career at EnduraLAB Strength + Endurance, working with endurance and high school athletes. Many of his athletes competed in marathons, ultra-marathons, triathlons, and mixed martial arts.
Before transitioning into strength and conditioning, Gomez played independent minor league baseball. Over the course of six professional seasons, Gomez pitched 304 innings with an ERA of 4.74, 224 strikeouts, and 100 walks. In 2016, he was awarded Pitcher of the Year with the Vallejo Admirals of the Pacific Association.
Gomez was a two-way player at Northwood University, leading his team to the school’s first and only NAIA World Series appearance, and garnering All-Conference honors during his senior campaign.
He completed his degree at The University of Texas at Arlington and is now seeking his Master’s in Sports Physiology from Texas A&M. Gomez is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the NSCA as well as a Functional Breathing Instructor through Oxygen Advantage.
A native of Alice, Texas, Gomez now resides in College Station with his dog Maggie.
