High School: Home schooled … Competed with Northwest Flyers track club … Coached by Devin Bogert and Richie Mercado … Competed in heptathlon, javelin and 300m hurdles … Established personal bests of 4,246 (heptathlon), 111-5 (javelin) and 46.46 (300m hurdles) … Won heptathlon at 2017 Texas Greatest Athlete event with 4,153 points and was runner-up in 2018 with a score of 4,246 … Finished ninth in javelin at 2018 Texas Relays … Placed eighth in heptathlon (4,227) at 2017 USATF Junior Olympics … Finished seventh in heptathlon (4,215) at 2017 New Balance Nationals … Competing in the 2017 TTFCA Meet of Champions, placed fifth in javelin, sixth in long jump, sixth in 300m hurdles and seventh in 100m hurdles … Also competed in club soccer during freshman year.
Personal: Rakel Wesley Karvelsson is the daughter of Robert and Amanda Karvelsson, born on January 17, 2000 in Atlanta, Georgia … Hometown is Houston, Texas … Dual nationality with Iceland and United States … Has three younger siblings, Sophia, Ethan and Caroline … Aunt Rakel Karvelsson played soccer at North Carolina, professional soccer for Philadelphia Chargers and represented Iceland in international competitions … Father played soccer at Emory University … Chose Texas A&M – “I love the people here, I really like that it’s close to home and, of course, I’ve wanted to be on the A&M track team because it’s the best of the best” … Started competing in track and field at age 15 … Has volunteered at St. Joseph’s Medical Center in summer of 2017 and assisted with Aggies CAN … Majoring in Allied Health.
