Texas A&M head football coach R.C. Slocum completed his coaching staff with the addition of former Washington State assistant Lawrence Livingston on Wednesday. Livingston, who has coached the offensive line for the past three seasons at WSU, will oversee the Aggie running backs.
"He's done a great job with the Washington State offense which ranked second in the country this past year and helped lead the Cougars to the Rose Bowl," Slocum said. "He's an impressive young coach who will do well here at Texas A&M."
Last year Livingston helped the Cougars to a Cinderella season that captured the fancy of the entire nation. Despite being unranked in the preseason, the Cougars won the Pacific 10 conference championship and made their first trip to the Rose Bowl since 1931. The Cougars fell to the top-ranked Michigan Wolverines in the Rose Bowl but still garnered a No. 9 national ranking, the school's best finish ever.
Prior to Washington State, Livingston was the head offensive line coach at Weber State under current Washington State head coach Mike Price for six seasons (1989-94). In 1993, one of his pupils, Paul Kongaika, earned first-team All-Big Sky honors, while in 1991, Bruce Covernton was named Div. I-AA All-American. Livingston also helped develop a first-team all-conference running back each year from 1990-93. He helped produce four out of five all-conference linemen in 1990, two of which earned All-America honors. He also developed three out of five all-conference linemen in 1991, one of which earned All-American honors. In 1987 Livingston oversaw the offensive line at the United States Military Academy and helped the Cadets to a 9-3 record and a berth in the Sun Bowl.
A standout player himself, Livington is one of only handful of Weber State players to have started every game of their career. Livingston began his career at a center but was moved to guard by Price where he twice earned All-Big Sky honors. He received his bachelor's degree in physical education in 1984.
Livingston and his wife Michelle have two sons, Lawrence Bernard (7) and Theodore (5).
