The ninth-ranked Texas A&M baseball team dropped the first game of a three-game series against No. 2 Texas, 6-3, if front of 7,150 fans at Disch-Falk Field.

With the loss, the Aggies dropped to 38-16 overall to 13-11 in Big 12 play. Texas improved to 47-10 and 18-6 in the league.

Games two and three of the series shift to Olsen Field in College Station. First pitch for game two is set for Saturday at 7:08 p.m.

The Aggies drew first blood in the top of the sixth off Texas starting pitcher J.P. Howell. Cory Patton singled to start the inning and with one out, a walk to Craig Stinson and a single by John Infante loaded the bases. Justin Ruggiano stroked a single up the middle to score the first two runs and Travis Bartek followed with a RBI single to plate the third.

The Longhorns answered in the bottom of the sixth by scoring six runs - all charged to A&M starter Jason Meyer. Will Couch started the scoring with a RBI double, followed by a RBI single by Robbie Hudson. After Meyer hit Ryan Russ and fanned J.D. Reininger for the second out of the inning, consecutive RBI singles by Drew Stubbs and Seth Johnston gave Texas the lead. Meyer was replaced by Blake Rampy, who allowed a double to Curtis Thigpen to earn the Horns a 6-3 lead.

Meyer (8-2) lasted 5.2 innings, striking out six and walking two. He allowed six earned runs on nine hits. It was the first time in eight starts Meyer did not last at least seven innings.

Howell (12-2) threw six-complete innings, allowing three earned runs on five hits. Howell walked five and struck out four.

J. Brent Cox and Buck Cody combined to pitch three scoreless innings to end the game. Cody recorded the final three outs to earn his second save of the season.
