Kat Krambeer's first collegiate hat-trick helped lead the No. 18 Texas A&M soccer team past the No. 23 Nebraska Cornhuskers, 4-0, Sunday at the Aggie Soccer Stadium. With the win, the Aggies snap a two game losing streak and improve their overall record to 9-3-1, 3-2 in Big 12 play, while the Huskers drop to 8-4-1, 3-1-1 in conference.
"I can't tell you how proud I am of Kat Krambeer," commented A&M head coach G. Guerrieri. "The kid works hard and the goals she scored today showed not only great composure but great work. Today we'll call it a 'Kat-trick'."
A&M fired hard shots from the get-go of Sunday's match. In the 22nd minute, on a throw-in, Amy Berend found Ashlee Pistorius in the box for the Aggie's game-winner.
However the fun was just beginning for a 12th Man crowd of 2,598. With less than three minutes remaining until halftime, Linda Pierson sent a long pass to Krambeer who dribbled past three Nebraska defenders before netting the first of her three goals for the afternoon, from the close left wing.
Going into the half, A&M had ousthot NU 11-2 while taking three corners to Nebraska's none.
The Aggies came out for the second half with the same urgent composure they displayed in the first 45 minutes of play. Pistorius sent a cross to Krambeer who was waiting ready to net her second goal from six yards out in the 71st minute.
Krambeer polished off the hat-trick three minutes later from the top of the box on a cross from Paige Carmichael.
In a match that was both quick and physical, with a total of 29 fouls recorded between the two teams, A&M managed to take 21 shots to Nebraska's seven.
"I am very excited that our girls didn't let Friday's result get them down," said Guerrieri. "I'm very appreciative of the 12th man, who was out there supporting us today because I think they received a treat. Nebraska came out and played hard, Linda Pierson had another fantastic game for us and Kati Jo did a great job of coming up and supporting our back line. Our possession was excellent."
Kat Krambeer was named State Farm Player of the Game with her three goals on the day.
"This is surreal," commented Krambeer on her hat-trick. "It was definitely a team effort from top to bottom. We saw the same chances we did on Friday, we were just able to finish them today."
The Aggies hit the road to face Oklahoma on Friday at the OU Soccer Complex. A&M leads the all-time series 10-0. Game-time is set for 7:00 p.m. You can access live stats by logging on to AggieAthletics.com.
