Sophomore forward Ashlee Pistorius has been listed as one of 15 finalists for Soccer Buzz?™s 2005 National Player of the Year award, editors of the magazine announced this week.
Over the course of the 2005 season, Pistorius has contributed 22 goals and 12 assists as she?™s helped lead the No. 9 Texas A&M Aggies (18-3-2) back to the ?Sweet 16? for the seventh time in the program?™s 13 years of existence. Pistorius has notched two hat-tricks this season for a career total of three. She has also tied two school records this season; most assists in a game with three against Oklahoma and most goals in a game with four against Baylor and is one assist shy of tying a school record for most assists in a season.
?Ashlee was the Soccer Buzz Central Region Freshman of the Year last season due to the incredible impact she had on our team's success in 2004,? commented A&M head coach G Guerrieri. And, she's been even more incredible this year, tallying 22 goals, handing out 12 assists, and showing week in and week out that she really is one of America's greatest players. I am very pleased to see Soccer Buzz giving her some national attention as one of their player of the year finalists."
In 2004, after recording 19 goals, along with six assists, and being named Central Region Freshman of the Year, Pistorius was added to Soccer Buzz?™s list of National Freshman of the Year finalists.
This marks the 10th year the award has been issued. The winners will be announced in December after a vote, open to all 306 Division I women?™s soccer head coaches and the Soccer Buzz staff.
Also making the National Player of the Year ballot from the Big 12 Conference is Nebraska?™s Brittany Timko, who ended her junior season with 11 goals and 21 assists in 23 games played.
Please keep in mind, Texas A&M will be serving as the host institution for the 2005 Women?™s College Cup, Dec. 2 and 4. For a fan guide and ticket information, go to www.AggieAthletics.com.
