Kyle Colligan went 3-for-5 with two RBI and every Texas A&M batter had at least one hit on Tuesday night as the Aggies defeated Texas-San Antonio, 9-3, at Olsen Field.
With the win, A&M improved to 21-23, while the Roadrunners dropped to 26-14.
Texas A&M returns to Big 12 action this Friday when they travel to Austin for the first of a three-game series against Texas. First pitch is set for 6:15 p.m. at Disch-Falk Field.
Games two and three of the series will be played at Olsen Field in College Station on Saturday at 3 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m.
The Roadrunners took the early lead in the top of the third with a run off A&M starter Chance Corgan. Corgan walked the lead off man Brandon Koger, who advanced to second on a grounder. After a flyout to shallow center, Michael McKennon delivered a two-out single to right to make the score 1-0.
A&M answered with a run of its own off UTSA starter Blake Brannon in the bottom of the third to tie the game at one. Blake Stouffer started the inning with a single, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Parker Dalton and advanced to third on an infield single by John Infante. Jose Salazar then lifted a sacrifice fly to left, allowing Stouffer to trot home.
The Aggies took their first lead of the game in the bottom of the fifth. Colligan singled with one out, moved to third on a double to right by Adam Hale and scored on a wild pitch by Brannon to make the score 2-1.
A&M extended the lead to 6-1 with a four-run sixth inning. Back-to-back RBI singles by Infante and Jose Salazar with one out chased reliever Josh Blakley. Colligan sent the third offering from new pitcher Andy Benedict down the right field line, driving in two more with his team-high third triple of the season.
UTSA answered with a pair in the seventh off reliever Kyle Thebeau. Michael McKennon drove in the first run with a single, then Lee Todesco followed with a double to make the score 6-3. Jordan Chambless entered in relief with a pair of Roadrunners in scoring position and fanned the final two batters to end the threat.
The Aggies added a single run in the bottom half of the seventh on Parker Dalton?™s RBI double. The final two runs of the game came home in the bottom of the eighth inning when, after Spencer Jackson doubled in Adam Hale, Austin Boggs followed with a triple to left center field to bring Jackson in and make the score 9-3.
Corgan (4-2) earned the win, allowing one run on five hits in five-complete innings of work. Brannon (3-6) shouldered the loss.
