Texas A&M sophomore Laura Grace Robinson scored two goals and added an assist to pace the No. 9 Texas A&M soccer team (2-0-0) to a 7-0 pounding of The University of Texas-San Antonio (0-2-0) on a breezy Sunday afternoon at the Aggie Soccer Stadium.
Coming off of a 1-0 double overtime victory over the University of North Carolina only two days earlier, the chance of A&M coming into the match a little flat emotionally was a possibility, but the Aggies proved early they came to play, outshooting the Roadrunners 38-2 overall and maintained total control throughout both periods of the game.
Robinson started the scoring off in the game?™s 29th minute when she picked up a loose ball just outside the UTSA penalty area. She dribbled to her right and blasted a right foot shot through the hands of Roadrunner goalkeeper Rachel Francis for the Aggies?™ game-winner.
Five minutes later, Robinson set up senior forward Suzette Devloo, for her first goal of the season, to make it 2-0. Robinson then finished off the first half with another goal of her own on an assist from senior Kat Krambeer.
In the second half, Krambeer added three more assists to set a new Aggie record for most assists in a single game, when she aided goals scored by Amber Gnatzig, Ashlee Pistorius and Elizabeth Jones. For her efforts, Krambeer was named the State Farm Player of the Game.
Gnatzig and Jones?™ goals were the first of their Aggie careers; while Pistorius?™ served as her second of the season, with the first being the game-winner over Carolina on Friday.
Junior midfielder Sara Albrecht netted the other goal for the Aggies, her first career at A&M, as she unloaded a 40-yard bomb that flew past the fingertips of the UTSA keeper.
"This was a good solid performance by our players," commented Aggie coach G Guerrieri following the game. ?It's great to start the season 2-0, and we're looking forward to continuing our home-stand next weekend against two more highly talented teams.?
The Aggies return to action this coming weekend in the annual Big 12/Big 10 Challenge. A&M will play host, at the Aggie Soccer Stadium, to No. 13 Illinois on Friday at 6 p.m. and then host No. 3 Penn State on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
