Texas A&M soccer players, Kristin Arnold (Centennial, Colo.), Alyssa Mautz (O?™Fallon, MO.) and Rachel Shipley (Plano, Texas) have been selected to participate in a seven-day training camp for the Under-20 Women?™s National Team (WNT) from April 5-12 at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif.
?We are excited these young ladies have earned this opportunity to represent their country,? commented A&M head coach G Guerrieri. ?I?™m very proud of Kristin, Rachel and Alyssa. I strongly believe that anytime our players are in a national team setting, it?™s good for them and consequently good for Texas A&M.?
Arnold, Mautz, and Shipley were three of 34 players WNT head coach Tony DiCicco has called in for this camp. DiCicco is currently preparing the team for CONCACAF Qualifying for the 2008 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup and will be using the camp to evaluate numerous new players before he begins to narrow down the player pool in preparation for qualifying.
En route to registering seven shutouts, Arnold, A&M?™s goalkeeper, posted a .86 goals against average in 2007, while recording 91 saves. The sophomore received All-Big 12 first team honors last season adding to the second team and All-Big 12 Newcomer Team accolades she garnered in 2006.
Shipley appeared in all 24 of the Aggies?™ matches last season, making 11 starts. The freshman midfielder scored two goals and chipped in six assists earning her All-Big 12 Newcomer Team honors.
Mautz, who transferred from St. Louis University, appeared in all 18 games, making 17 starts for the Billikens during the 2007 season. She was second on the team in goals with five, four of which were gamewinners, and was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Freshman Team.
The U.S. U-20s will play four matches during the camp as DiCicco splits his squad for a pair of matches on April 8 and April 12.
On April 8, the USA will take on the W-League Pali Blues at 11 a.m. followed by a match against Loyola Marymount University at 1 p.m. On April 12, the U-20s will square off against two college teams, playing Long Beach State at 11 a.m. and UCLA at 1 p.m.
