OKLAHOMA CITY - Texas A&M's Carey Nowacek won the western horsemanship title at the 2010 Built Ford Tough AQHYA World Championship Show finals, held earlier this month.
Nowacek, a rising sophomore from San Antonio, bested a field of 162 riders in the division in riding her horse, Certify this Chex, to the championship--the first of her career at the prestigious event.
"I am very proud of Carey's accomplishments this summer," Aggie horsemanship coach Beth Bass said. "She had an incredible freshman year here at A&M and then she topped it off with winning the `crown jewel' as an individual competitor. Carey pushes herself extremely hard and has definitely earned this championship."
Nowacek was instrumental in helping the A&M western team to a second consecutive national championship this past spring. She posted an 18-2-1 record in horsemanship, took home four MVP honors and advanced all the way to the finals of the individual national championship in the discipline.
"Riding for Texas A&M has definitely made me more confident in my riding skills because we had to go ride horses that we'd never even seen before," Nowacek told gohorseshow.com. "You ride them for four minutes and then go do a hard pattern. It just built my confidence and made me believe more in my horse than anything else."
