COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Texas A&M midfielder Alyssa Mautz propelled the Aggie soccer team to victories over a pair of ranked opponents to gain the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) National Player of the Week honor on Wednesday.
The senior from O'Fallon, Mo., scored four of A&M's six goals as the team notched wins against No. 16 Virginia Tech and No. 21 Washington State. She netted the game-winning goal in both contests and now leads the Big 12 Conference with 10 points this season. The wins pushed the Aggies up to No. 7 in the Soccer Times top 25 poll.
The NSCAA national honor is the first of Mautz's career and adds to her list of national and conference awards earned this week, including the TopDrawerSoccer.com Team of the Week, CollegeSoccer360.com Primetime Performer of the Week and Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week.
The last A&M soccer player to be named an NSCAA National Player of the Week was Whitney Hooper (Houston, Texas) on Sept. 23, 2009.
Each week for the NSCAA, a male and female player will be selected by a committee from a nomination pool comprised of players of the week from each NCAA Division I soccer conference. The players will be announced each Wednesday afternoon from now until Nov. 3 through NSCAA.com, the official website of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
