COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The Texas A&M men's golf team will compete in 12 tournaments this upcoming season, with six stops in Texas and visits to Washington, Georgia, Hawai'i, Las Vegas and South Carolina, head coach J.T. Higgins announced Wednesday.
The Aggies, coming off their second-straight top-five finish in the national rankings, will again face one of the country's toughest slates as they compete for the Big 12 title and another national championship.
"Once again, we are playing one of the most challenging schedules in the nation and are competing against the best programs in college golf," Higgins said. "This year, we have a great mix in that we are traveling to some great events around the country but also playing in the State of Texas six times, which should give Aggies and golf fans in all parts of the state a good chance to see us play."
Aggie fans in the state of Texas will be able to see the team in action in San Antonio (Lone Star Invitational, Oct. 16-18); Dallas (Royal Oaks Intercollegiate, Oct. 31-Nov. 1); Austin (Morris Williams Intercollegiate, March 16-17); and The Woodlands (All-American Intercollegiate, April 9-10). In addition, Texas A&M will again host The Aggie Invitational at Traditions Club in Bryan (April 21 and 22).
Highlighting the schedule include return trips to the Kikkor Golf Husky Invitational, outside Seattle (Sept. 26-27); the U.S. Collegiate Championship, outside Atlanta (Oct. 23-25); the John A. Burns Invitational in Hawai'i (Feb. 15-17); the Wyoming Desert Classic, in California (Feb. 25-26); and the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate, in South Carolina (March 25-27).
A&M will open the postseason at the Big 12 Championship, set for April 26-28 at Whispering Pines in Trinity, Texas. NCAA Regional play is scheduled for May 17-19 and the NCAA Championship will take place May 29-June 3 at Riviera Country Club in Los Angeles.
"We will be teeing it up this year against the best teams and players on some of the best courses in America on a regular basis," Higgins said. "To be the best, you have to play the best, and I think this schedule will prepare us for a good run in the postseason."
