No. 16 A&M Breaks Record With Rout Over Missouri

"Obviously anytime you can break a record or reach some sort of achievement, it is nice, but all the credit goes to these girls," first-year head coach Howard Joffe said. "They have been working so hard and are improving all the time, and they are a pleasure to work with. Any good fortune is absolutely deserved by them."
A&M, which has won every match since falling in its season opener, improves to 10-1 and also moves to 18-1 in the all-time series against Tigers. Missouri, which has lost the last 10 meetings against the Aggies and has not defeated A&M since 2003, falls to 5-5.
Singles were played first, and the Aggies cruised to first-set wins on all six courts, as the Tigers were unable to win more than three games on a single court. Seventh-ranked Cristina Sanchez-Quintanar put the Aggies on the scoreboard and remained undefeated in dual matches, improving to 11-0 after disposing of Nina Pantic, 6-1, 6-2 at the No. 1 line.
Wen Sun won her fifth consecutive match and improved to 9-2 in dual matches with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Maria Christensen at the No. 3 line to put A&M ahead, 2-0. Janine Erasmus then gave the Aggies a 3-0 lead after finishing off Annemijn Koenen, 6-1, 6-2 at the No. 6 line.
Nazari Urbina, ranked No. 111, then clinched the Aggies' record-setting win with a 6-0, 6-4 victory over 93rd-ranked Rachel Stuhlmann at the No. 2 court. It was the seventh straight win for Urbina, who improved to 9-2 in singles matches.
Lauren Santacroce kept the Tigers scoreless with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Jamie Mera at No. 4 before Alex Clark put Missouri on the board with a come-from-behind 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (6) victory over Janelle Cuthbertson at the No. 5 line.
In doubles, A&M's senior duo of Sheri Olivier and Lauren Santacroce improved to 9-1 at the No. 3 line after racing to an 8-1 win over Clark and Ashleigh Chiaf. Urbina and Cuthbertson then clinched the doubles point and ran their winning streak to eight with an 8-3 victory over Stuhlmann and Koenen at No. 2.
Pantic and Mera prevented a doubles sweep by the Aggies with an 8-6 win over Sanchez-Quintanar and Sun on the No. 1 court.
"This was a good way to start off conference play," Joffe said. "I was encouraged by the way our girls approached the match and went about their business. They were very focused and played exceptionally well. Missouri is a good team, but we were far superior tonight."
The Aggies now head to Ames, Iowa, where they will take on Iowa State on Sunday at 10 a.m. A&M is 15-0 in the all-time series against the Cyclones.
