Adams Claims Classic Crown
Sep 22, 2013 | Men's Tennis
Adams, who was named to the All-SEC Second Team and All-Freshmen team a year ago, knocked off William Kallberg of Ole Miss, 6-2, 6-1, in the quarterfinals and Chris Simpson of LSU, 6-4, 6-2, in the semifinals to advance to the championship match. Shane Vinsant, another sophomore for the Aggies, fell in his quarterfinals matchup to Simpson, 6-2, 7-5.
In doubles, Adams and Vinsant paired together in another quarterfinals contest, but could not mount a late rally to overcome the duo of Stropp and Angus from Mississippi State, falling 8-6.
In the consolation draw, freshman Tito Moreiras fell to Elliot Orkin of Florida, 6-2, 6-2, in the third round. The tournament also featured additional consolation matchups arranged by the coaches. Juniors Frankie Colunga and Behzad Minavi were both victorious over Sean Karl of Tennessee and Vinod Gowda of Ole Miss, respectively. Freshman Max Montague fell to Sunay Bhat of Tennessee (6-3, 6-4) on Saturday and Ben Barnette of South Carolina (6-0, 6-1) on Sunday.
The Texas A&M men's tennis team returns to action on September 28 when it travels to Tulsa, Okla., for the ITA All-American Championships. To learn more about the men's tennis team, visit AggieAthletics.com and follow @AggieMTEN on Twitter.
