COLLEGE STATION – The Texas A&M men's tennis team captured eight wins on the final day of the 2014 Conference Challenge at the Mitchell Tennis Center Sunday. The Aggies hosted athletes representing Texas Tech, Illinois and LSU.
A pair of A&M's doubles teams capped off a perfect weekend with a win in Sunday morning's third round of doubles. No. 37 Jeremy Efferding and Jordan Szabo defeated Chris Simpson and Justin Butsch of LSU, while AJ Catanzariti and Max Lunkin went over on Ross Guignon and Aron Hiltzik of Illinois.
Sophomore Frankie Colunga and senior Max Montague claimed the third doubles win for A&M on day, beating Alex Buzelan and Evan Nix of Texas Tech. The only doubles setback for A&M was No. 23 Harrison Adams and Shane Vinsant falling to Felipe Soares and Connor Curry of Tech.
The maroon and white amassed five singles wins on the day, getting wins from Catanzariti, Colunga, Lunkin, No 11 Adams and No. 46 Efferding. No. 15 Vinsant, Montague, Szabo and freshman Jett Cash suffered singles defeats on the day.
The Aggies are holding out hope for a wildcard or at-large berth to the ITA National Indoor Championships in New York City, November 6-9. If the maroon and white do not receive the call, then the Ags will break until the spring season beginning in California January 9th.
