Bulldogs Snap Aggies' Seven-Match Win Streak
Mar 28, 2014 | Women's Tennis
"Tonight we were thoroughly outplayed by a very strong and determined Georgia team,” A&M head coach Howard Joffe said. “I am not displeased with our effort or how we performed, but we will need to flip the proverbial switch and be ready for a motivated Tennessee team on Sunday."
The Aggies dropped their first doubles matches in conference play this season, falling on courts one and two. The 60th-ranked duo of Ines Deheza and Saska Gavrilovska fell to the 25th-ranked tandem of Kate Fuller and Silvia Garcia, 8-5, at the No. 2 line. Georgia claimed the doubles point after a late run by the second-ranked pair of Lauren Herring and Maho Kowase over A&M's 23rd-ranked team of Cristina Stancu and Stefania Hristov, 8-5, at the No. 1 line. The Maroon and White narrowly missed a victory at the No. 3 line when the match between A&M's Rutuja Bhosale and Anna Mamalat went unfinished against the 68th-ranked pair of Lilly Kimbell and Caroline Brinson, with the Aggies a point away from victory at 7-5.
A&M fell behind 2-0 after Hristov dropped a 6-1, 6-4 decision at the No. 4 line to 63rd-ranked Kimbell. The Bulldogs pulled ahead 3-0 after 21st-ranked Garcia downed Deheza, 6-4, 6-1, at the No. 2 line to put even more pressure on the Aggies. Georgia would secure the win at the No. 3 line after No. 19 Maho Kowase defeated Gavrilovska, 7-6 (5), 6-4.
The women's tennis team will be in action again on Sunday when it travels to Knoxville, Tenn., to take on the 39th-ranked Lady Volunteers at 11 a.m. Visit AggieAthletics.com for more information on Texas A&M women's tennis.
