Catanzariti Advances to ITA All-American Qualifying Draw

COLLEGE STATION – Texas A&M men's tennis freshman AJ Catanzariti advanced to the ITA Qualifying draw after another pair of wins Sunday afternoon. The pre-qualifying draw feeds into the qualifying draw as part of the first men's national title of the fall season at the 2014 Saint Francis Health System ITA Men's All-American Championships. For the 10th straight year, the University of Tulsa will host the Saint Francis Health System ITA Men's All-American Championships at the state-of-the-art Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
Catanzariti collected wins over Matt Frost of Drake and Ben Davis of Mid Tennessee to complete the quartet of victories in the Sooner state. The Pittsburgh native advances to face Eric Johnson of Southern Cal, Monday at 11:00 a.m.
“AJ has shown an outstanding ability to rise to the occasion and play big when he has had to,” Texas A&M men's tennis head coach Steve Denton said. “As a freshman, he has not been at all intimidated by the venue.”
Sophomore Frankie Colunga was eliminated from the bracket by Brett Forman of Michigan State. The College Station finishes play in Oklahoma after a pair of wins Saturday.
Joining Catanzariti in action Monday will the qualifying draw's number one-seed senior Jeremy Efferding, the Floridian will face Francisco Dias of George Washington at 9:00 a.m. Monday's winners will need another pair of wins to advance to the ITA All-American, matches are set for Tuesday and Wednesday.
