Tenth-ranked Texas A&M, which opens dual match play Saturday, Jan. 24 by hosting North Texas, Houston and TCU in the 2015 ITA Kick-off Weekend at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center, had sent a split squad to both the NCTC and the Freeman Memorial in Las Vegas, with four players competing in each of the two events.
"Both tournaments were very good for our group,” A&M coach Howard Joffe said. “I feel like with this productive weekend, we are well positioned to face the challenges that the Kick-Off Weekend will present. At an individual level, it was very nice to see Rutuja reach the semifinals after getting a breakthrough win against (Taylor) Davidson of Stanford.”
Bhosale won her third consecutive match and advanced to the semifinals by defeating 12th-ranked Davidson in the quarterfinals. Bhosale, whose previous highest ranked victory was against No. 92 Tessa Lyons of North Carolina in September, then narrowly lost to 17th-ranked Lorraine Guillermo of Pepperdine in the semifinals, 6-4, 2-6, 6-3.
Meanwhile, freshman Eva Paalma highlighted the Aggies' play at the Freeman Memorial hosted by UNLV as she advanced to the consolation singles finals before falling to Johanna Henderson of Tennessee, 6-4, 6-4.
