
No. 15 Women's Golf Wins Rebel Intercollegiate With 7-Under Sunday

OXFORD, Miss.- The No. 15 Texas A&M women's golf team had a record-breaking finish to capture its second tournament victory of 2014-15 with a three stroke victory at the Rebel Intercollegiate. The Aggies shot a Rebel Intercollegiate-record 858 (-6) over 54 holes and Sophomore Marijosse Navarro shot a tournament-record 66 (-6) on Sunday.
The Aggies shot a 281 (-7), the second-lowest round in school history, on the Ole Miss Golf Course Sunday to complete the tournament, finishing three strokes ahead of second place Kent State (861/-3). The Aggies 6-under for the tournament was the third-lowest score for a tournament in school history.
This marks the first time since 2009-10, when the Aggies won three tournaments, that Texas A&M has won multiple tournaments in the same season. Earlier this season, the Aggies won the Jim West Challenge at Tapatio Springs. In addition to the two team victories this season, an Aggie has won the individual competition in three other tournaments this year.
Four Aggies finished in the Top 10 individually, led by Navarro, whose collegiate-best 66 was just one shot off the school record of 65. Navarro finished the tournament with a 213 (-3) and finished second. Navarro has finished in the Top 6 in her last nine tournaments, including all seven tournaments she has played this season.
Freshman Maddie Szeryk and Sophomore Andrea Jonama tied for third place by both shooting 214 (-2) for the tournament. Szeryk shot a 71 (-1) on Sunday, while Jonama shot a 73 (+1).
Sophomore Bianca Fabrizio rounded out the Aggies in the top 10 with a 217 (+1) score for the tournament to finish 10th. Fabrizio shot a 71 (-1) on Sunday.
Thanya Pattamakijsakul shot a 74 (+2) on Sunday to finish the tournament in 74th with a 233 (+17).
A&M is the first team from the SEC to win the Rebel Intercollegiate, hosted by conference rival Ole Miss on their par 72 / 6,210 yard course.
The Aggies return to action from Apr. 17-19 in Hoover, Ala. for the SEC Championship.
NOTES: Texas A&M has won the team competition or produced the individual champion in five of their nine tournaments this season … Three of the five lowest team rounds (relative to par) in A&M women's golf history have come this year (-13 at Alamo Invitational, -7 at Rebel Intercollegiate, -6 at Schooner Fall Classic) … Two of the five lowest individual rounds in school history have come this year (Szeryk -7 at “Mo”Morial, Navarro -6 at Rebel Intercollegiate) … Two of the three lowest team scores in 54 hole tournaments have come this season (838 at Schooner Fall Classic, 852 at Alamo Invitational, 858 at Rebel Intercollegiate) … A&M has had at least one golfer finish in the Top 5 in all nine tournaments this season, and has posted a total of 16 Top 5 finishes this season
