No. 11 Women's Golf Heads To Schooner Fall Classic
Sep 18, 2015 | Women's Golf
The No. 11 Texas A&M women's golf team tees off in its first tournament of the season Saturday, September 19, heading to the Schooner Fall Classic at Belmar Golf Club, hosted by Oklahoma.
The defending SEC Champions take to the par 71 / 5,901 yard course with 12 other teams, including No. 9 Oklahoma State, and the 2014 champion of the event, Mississippi State. The 54-hole tournament runs through Monday, September 21.
The Aggies' lineup includes 2015 SEC Freshman of the Year Maddie Szeryk, 2015 SEC Individual Champion Bianca Fabirizio, junior Thanya Pattamakijsakul, freshman Emily Campbell, and junior Andrea Jonama. Each round, the four best A&M scores from the lineup of five count towards the Aggies' team total.
In addition, transfer Chloe Velasco competes as an individual at the event.
The Aggies had a record-setting appearance at last season's Schooner Fall Classic, finishing 3rd with a score of 838 (-2). At the time, the 2-under par score for the tournament was the third-lowest in A&M history—just 11 months later it ranks 7th. Maddie Szeryk led the Aggies individually at the 2014 Schooner Fall Classic, shooting a 205 (-5) for the tournament. That mark, which was T-5th in A&M history at the time, now ranks T-10th in the A&M record book for a 54-hole score.
The Aggies competed in a dual match on Sept. 6, but fell to Texas despite putting in a strong performance on the course, but this is A&M's first traditional tournament. After the Schooner Fall Classic, the Aggies go to the Annika Intercollegiate presented by 3M in Orlando, Fla. from Sept. 27-29.
