Aggie men runner-up in distance medley relay, A&M Team Invitational continues Saturday

COLLEGE STATION – Action for the Aggies in the Friday portion of the Texas A&M 11-Team Invitational centered on the distance medley relay and 5,000 meter races. The bulk of the meet continues on Saturday with finals beginning at 2 p.m. in the Gilliam Indoor Stadium.

In the Aggie Team Invitational completed on Friday the team titles were claimed by the Texas-Arlington men and Sam Houston State women.
Sam Houston scored 141 points in the women's division to dominate the 14-team field. Texas-Arlington finished runner-up with 89 points while Louisiana Tech placed third at 69 points. Texas-Arlington totaled 123.5 points to capture the men's title over Sam Houston (82.5) and Louisiana Tech (62).
Texas A&M men finished as runner-up in the distance medley relay with a time of 10:04.71 behind a 9:54.18 from Brigham Young, who just missed the meet record of 9:54.04 set by the Aggies last year.
The A&M foursome included Nathan Ricketts (3:07.78), Tarik Tyler (48.51), Jake Bootz (1:57.21) and Aaron Murray (4:16.21). Finishing behind the Aggies were Stephen F. Austin (10:05.25) and UTSA (10:10.04).
In the women's distance medley relay the A&M crew of Katie Watson (3:34.48), Jessica Laseak (58.38), Danielle Haas (2:19.04) and Lauren Fontana (5:16.15) posted a time of 12:08.05 for fourth place behind BYU (11:44.06), Baylor (11:57.24) and SFA (12:01.91) with UTSA (12:18.91) in fifth place.
Racing in the 5,000 meters the A&M tandem of Juan Uribe (15:12.53) and Julian Castellano (15:32.00) finished third and fifth among schools in Saturday's meet.
A team of Aggies racing in the men's 4x400 among schools that comprised the Aggie Team Invitational posted the top time of 3:15.52 to finish ahead of Texas-Arlington's 3:15.95. The A&M foursome included Daniel Martin (49.39), Jackson Davis (48.96), Dewitt Thomas (49.70) and Kris Bander (47.47). Bander held off the anchor leg for Texas-Arlington, who split 46.87.
Some A&M multi-event athletes contested events on Friday. Shaina Burns produced a mark of 44-6 (13.56) in the women's shot put as Annie Kunz reached a mark of 39-3 ¼ (11.97). In the pentathlon those marks would score 765 and 659 points.
