No. 16 Texas A&M opens SEC play by hosting Georgia in a women's basketball game at Reed Arena on Sunday. It is Daddy-Daughter Day at Reed Arena, with special promotions in store for fathers who bring their daughters to the game.
The game is broadcast on SEC Network, with Olympic Gold Medalist Paul Sunderland and Women's Basketball Hall of Famer Gail Goestenkors on the call. Authenticated subscribers of the SEC Network can also watch the game at no extra charge on WatchESPN on computers, tablets, smartphones and other connected devices by using their login information from their cable or satellite provider.
Additionally, listeners can tune into Gabe Bock and Tap Bentz on The Zone 1150 AM/102.7 FM for the radio call. The radio call is also available on 12thMan.com/showcase or on the Radio Aggieland app.
The game is A&M's first annual Daddy-Daughter Day, with commemorative stadium cups, good for one free fountain drink, and memory books to commemorate the special day going out to the first 250 Daddy-Daughter pairs to the game. The game also features a photo booth on the concourse, and special in-game promotions. In addition, Uncles, big brothers, and grandfathers are welcome as well.
Each of the last two meetings between Georgia and Texas A&M have come down to the wire, with the Aggies coming back from 16 points down to force overtime in a 78-73 win in 2014. Last season, Courtney Williams hit a long jump shot down three points with 18 seconds to play, but her toe was on the 3-point line, making the shot worth two points as the Aggies eventually fell 54-51 in Athens, Ga.
The Aggies have now won three straight games, and are 10-3 on the season. Courtney Walker is the SEC's reigning Player of the Week, which was her second selection this year. A&M is 3-0 in SEC openers, and is opening the conference season at home for the fourth straight season.
After dropping their second game of the season, Georgia has rattled off 11 straight wins under first-year head coach Joni Taylor. The Lady Bulldogs have three players averaging double figures, Tiaria Griffin (14.6), Merritt Hempe (12.9) and Shacobia Barbee (12.8).
After this game, the Aggies head to Fayetteville, Ark. to take on Arkansas on Thursday, January 7 at 7 p.m., which is part SEC Network's whip-around coverage.
