Oct 05, 2016 | Cross Country
COLLEGE STATION – Texas A&M hosts a third cross country meet this season on the Dale Watts course with the Aggieland Open taking place Friday afternoon. The meet includes six teams in addition to Texas A&M as the women race at 5 p.m. over a 5,000-meter distance and the men race at 5:30 p.m. over an 8,000-meter course.
Schools competing include Baylor, Louisiana Tech, Prairie View A&M, Sam Houston, Stephen F. Austin, and Texas Southern. The Watts course is located within the Hildebrand Equine Complex at 3242 F and B Road. The facility is accessible from F and B Road off the corner intersection with 2818.
"This meet is intended to provide an opportunity for some of our athletes who haven't traveled or who are on the bubble to travel the chance to compete," noted Texas A&M assistant coach Wendel McRaven. "It's another opportunity for our athletes to get on our course and compete in a great setting.
"This meet, in many instances, is a developmental competition for us. In the past we have traveled locally for this opportunity and after last year we decided that since we have such a great course we might as well go ahead and host a meet this weekend."
Running for the Aggie men are Jake Bootz, Eli Canal, Julian Castellano, Logan Hendrix, Aaron Murray and Juan Uribe.
The Texas A&M women's team will include Olivia Arriaza, Emily Bandy, Valarie Bradley, Hannah Campbell, Lizette Chapa, Laura Craig, Lauren Fontana, Ashton Hutcherson, Nikki Keys, Amelia McElhinney, Shelby McNeel, Erica Moorhead, Sarah Odneal, Katie Pia, Audrey Spitz, Kaitlin Tanner, Kelsie Warren and Emily Willingham.
In USTFCCCA South Central region rankings the Aggie men remain third with the women still sixth. Next week Texas A&M will compete among another field of nationally-ranked teams when they travel to Madison, Wisconsin, for the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational held on Oct. 14.
