Texas A&M’s Gavrilovska Completes Play at ITA All-Americans
Oct 08, 2016 | Women's Tennis
PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. – Texas A&M senior Saska Gavrilovska completed play at the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships as she fell to fifth-ranked and No. 2 seed Sinead Lohan of Miami, 5-7, 6-2, 6-1, in the first round of the main draw consolation on Friday at the Riviera Tennis Club.
"Overall, I am quite pleased with how well we performed throughout the entire All American event," A&M head coach Mark Weaver said about the week-long tournament. "It was a big challenge for our group with this being our first tournament of the fall and facing some of the toughest competition in the nation right out of the gates. There was no time to sort of work yourself into the matches as everyone you face is basically a nationally ranked opponent.
"Looking at the results as a whole, we won our share of matches, and the losses that we had were very competitive. Those opponents that we faced in both singles and doubles continued on with successful runs, so I find that to be very encouraging. It is no doubt a solid start to the fall season."
The Aggies return to action Oct. 20-24 at the USTA/ITA Texas Regional in Waco, Texas.
"We are all looking forward to getting a couple days rest and getting back to the practice courts to prepare for the regionals in Waco. We have several players that have been overcoming some injuries from last season, and my hopes are that we can have the entire roster competing in the regionals."
