QUICK QUOTES
Texas A&M Head Coach Gary Blair
Opening Statement…
"It was a good game to play a lot of people. When you play a lot of people you're going to have some turnovers; you're going to have some missed assignments. I liked how the team responded at half time because we were not moving very well in the first half. It doesn't matter how many players you play, so that's why I had to go ahead and press to get movement, force turnovers, see if our kids would play a little bit harder. There were a few kids that came off the bench, Walnatia [Wright] played very well for her minutes in there didn't make mistakes. [Rakell] Spencer is going to be a nice player for us.
On Anriel Howard...
"On the offensive end she's doing a lot of very good things. On the defensive end she's making a lot of mistakes. She gave us five steals today, but this was the type of team today that we were playing, trapping, she was very active, she was there. The high post shot she has worked on hard all year. That's just something that we trust when she has her feet and doesn't shoot off her back foot she is very good. What I'd like for her to do is work on scoring by show-shot on offensive rebound, in her drive and layups she needs to improve on that.
On next preparing for next week's game versus Southern…
"We are going to take off Monday and Tuesday, and we'll practice Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. We are going to go to Houston and take them to the Children's Hospital down there on Friday and let them do some community service. What we'll do at the hospital will be just as good for us as it will be for the kids; for our kids to realize how lucky they are to have the opportunity to go to school and be healthy. It's time to give back. It's called Christmas. Then what I want is to be able to have games where these freshmen and Walnatia Wright can look at tape and say, 'I could have done this better. I could have done that better.' And the only way they can look at it is I've got to have game footage to go over, and they'll get better and better."
On #15 Brittany Mbamalu…
"Give Brittany Mbamalu a lot of credit for them. I thought she played excellent. She had to do a lot for that team. She turned the ball over some, but that's a nice player."
Texas A&M Sophomore Forward Anriel Howard
On working to improve her shooting…
"I believe my midrange has gotten much better from last year, but I haven't been finishing like I want to, so I need to make sure I square up my shoulders when I drive. I'm still working on it."
On today's positives …
"I think it's getting our momentum back. We started off very slow, but I think after the coaches talked to us and let us know that we're better than what we were playing we finally started to pick it up a little bit. I think this game was just a motivation game to let us keep playing hard and for the upcoming games that we have."
Texas A&M Corpus Christi Head Coach Royce Chadwick
Opening Statement...
"I thought they were a lot more powerful than we were. They did a really good job of taking advantage of things in the paint. We knew that was going to be a problem for us coming in. We don't match up real well size-wise, the turnovers I thought were really huge for us. We couldn't not handle the basketball the way we need to handle the ball and we gave up offensive rebounds, especially in the second half when we had to go to the zone. They did a really good job of attacking us and making us rotate and then when they shot it, we couldn't keep them off the boards. By far, the best basketball team we played this year and they're extremely well coached. They take advantage of every situation that they have an advantage in and they had several advantages I thought tonight and they exploited them all. They've got some great players. I hope our players are ready to watch what some of the Texas A&M girls did and emulate that in our league. It was certainly a learning experience for a lot of our freshmen. We have three freshmen that start for us. I think they weren't scared but they sure did get an education tonight."
