No. 23 Texas A&M heads west for Mary Nutter Classic
Feb 18, 2016 | Softball
COLLEGE STATION – No. 23 Aggie softball will face three ranked teams at the Mary Nutter Classic Feb. 19-21 in Cathedral City, Calif. A&M is currently 5-1 on the season and is coming off an 8-0 victory in five innings over Sam Houston State.
"We are looking forward to the opportunity to play ranked teams this weekend," head coach Jo Evans said. "We are challenging the team to see what our strengths and weaknesses are. We are going to see some great pitching, and that will be good for our hitters to see, because it will be very similar to what we will face come conference play. We have some good momentum heading into the tournament, so I would like to see us continue on that good path."
Reigning SEC Freshman of the Week Keeli Milligan paces the offense with a .524 (11-for-21) average at the top of the lineup, followed by sophomore Tori Vidales, who is hitting. 429 with three home runs and seven RBI. In the circle, sophomore Trinity Harrington is 2-0 with a 0.57 ERA and 11 strikeouts. Freshman Samantha Show is 3-1 with a 2.24 ERA and 28 strikeouts.
The Aggies will open the tournament Friday against Central Michigan at noon CT and No. 16 UCF at 2:30 p.m. CT. On Saturday, Texas A&M will face UCSB at 11:30 a.m. CT and No. 9 Washington at 2 p.m. CT. A&M will face off against No. 10 Arizona at 11 a.m. CT Sunday and New Mexico at 1:30 p.m. CT.
