No. 14 Texas A&M set to take on Houston Wednesday
Feb 23, 2016 | Softball
COLLEGE STATION – The No. 14 Texas A&M softball team will take on the University of Houston Wednesday at 6 p.m. CT at the Cougar Softball Stadium. The Aggies are currently 11-1 on the season and are ranked 14th in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25 Poll with a first place vote and 16th in the USA Today/NFCA Coaches Poll.
"I don't know a lot about Houston this year so it is going to be interesting for us," head coach Jo Evans said. "We usually play them pretty much every year and we know a lot of their kids from recruiting and our kids have played against or with most of them. For us, it is about playing our game and doing what we know how to do. It has been fun to see our kids go out there and get after it and have fun playing."
The Aggies, who are currently on an eight-game winning streak, are led offensively by junior April Ryan, who is hitting .529. Sophomore Tori Vidales and senior Cali Lanphear are tied with a team-high 13 RBI, while Vidales leads the team with four home runs.
In the circle, freshman Samantha Show co-leads the NCAA in wins with seven and is second in the SEC in strikeouts with 47. The East Bernard, Texas native recorded four wins at the Mary Nutter Classic with wins over then-No. 16 UCF and then-No. 10 Arizona.
Houston is 6-4 on the season and is coming off a 3-2 weekend at the Hilton Houston Plaza Invitational, where the Cougars defeated Toledo twice and Iowa State, 4-3, and fell to Ball State and No. 24 Texas.
Houston is led by freshmen Elise LeBeouf, who leads the team in home runs with three and hit two against Iowa State, and Presley Bell, who tossed her second complete game shutout of her career against Toledo and was named to the American Athletic Conference's weekly honor roll for her performance.
Wednesday's game can be heard locally on KWBC 1550 AM and live scoring can be found at http://www.sidearmstats.com/tamu/softball. A live stream of the game can be found on www.UHCougars.com.
