"I am pleased with the way Samantha is throwing," head coach Jo Evans said. "I thought she had great presence and really attacked hitters. She made pitches when she needed to make them. She got herself into a jam, but she kept her composure the entire time.
"It was great to have us score in the first inning like that. It is defeating for an opponent when we can go out there and score early. I was really pleased to see how we hit throughout the lineup. For me, I was very pleased to see error-free defense."
Freshman Keeli Milligan started the game with an infield single and scored the first run on a sophomore Tori Vidales double. Senior Cali Lanphear singled to left to score Vidales before junior April Ryan doubled to left, plating Lanphear.
The Aggies tacked on two more in the top of the second as sophomore Kristen Cuyos blasted her fourth home run of the season to score freshman Riley Sartain. Sophomore Erica Russell scored in the top of the third on an attempted stolen base by freshman Samantha Show to take a 6-0 lead.
Sophomore Hailey Rebar recorded her fourth RBI of the season with a single up the middle in the top of the fifth to score senior pinch runner Alex Masek.
In the top of the sixth, sophomore Ashley Walters roped her second double of the season, scoring Vidales and Lanphear, before Show hit her fourth home run of the season, plating Walters. Senior Breanna Dozier capped off the five-run inning with an RBI single to right center.
Show tossed her second shutout of the season, throwing six innings giving up three hits while striking out six.
The Aggies return to action Friday against Indiana and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at the Texas A&M Invitational. First pitch against Indiana is slated for 3 p.m. CT.
