Long ball lifts No. 10 Texas A&M over No. 4 LSU, 6-2

COLLEGE STATION – The No. 10 Texas A&M softball team launched three home runs Friday as the Aggies defeated No. 4 LSU, 6-2, at the Aggie Softball Complex.
"I am really pleased with how we played the game," head coach Jo Evans said. "I thought we showed great composure. We gave them some freebies in the first inning and they had who they wanted up at the plate and Samantha getting out of that was crucial. For us to turn around and get some freebies ourselves and then Cali stepping up and getting a big home run just energized the crowd and our team. I thought our dugout was great. We stayed in the game the entire night. The big difference was every time they scored, we answered right back. Tori was great today at the plate and really made a statement. It was really nice to see us answer the call like that."
A&M (26-2, 1-0 SEC) took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a three-run homer from senior Cali Lanphear. Freshman Kaitlyn Alderink was hit by a pitch, and sophomore Tori Vidales walked to give the Aggies runners on first and second with one out. Lanphear then hit her seventh home run of the season to give A&M the lead.
Lanphear's dinger puts her in fifth place all-time in program history in career home runs with 42, surpassing Rhi Kleising (2008-11) and Amber Garza (2011-14).
LSU (24-4, 2-2 SEC) responded with a run in the second on an Elyse Thornhill RBI double, before Vidales knocked a 2-0 pitch over the wall in left, giving the Aggies a 4-1 lead. A&M added another run in the third as freshman Riley Sartain drove in sophomore Ashley Walters, who had a career high three hits, on a sacrifice fly to center.
The Tigers got a run back in the fourth as Thornhill singled to right, scoring Bailey Landry. Vidales countered with her second home run of the game and eighth of the season.
Freshman Samantha Show earned her 15th win of the season, tossing a three-hit complete game while striking out four.
A&M and the Tigers will return to the Aggie Softball Complex Saturday at 3 p.m. Saturday's contest can be seen on the SEC Network +, available through WatchESPN and the ESPN app and can be heard locally on KWBC 1550 AM or online at www.RadioAggieland.com.
