No. 4 Texas A&M travels to No. 12 Georgia
Mar 24, 2016 | Softball
COLLEGE STATION – No. 4 Texas A&M hits the road for its first SEC road series of the season against No. 12 Georgia Friday through Sunday at Jack Turner Stadium in Athens, Ga.
"Georgia is a great ball club," head coach Jo Evans said. "They haven't lost very many games this season. We are two very completely different teams. We are very young and inexperienced; they are very old and experienced. They have All-Americans and five or six seniors who are catalysts in their lineup. We know they are going to play us tough. It is not an easy place to play. Their field is hard. They tailor it for their lefty slappers, so it is a place we are used to playing, but we haven't had much success there as we would have liked."
The Aggies enter the weekend with a 27-3 record after winning their series against then-No. 4 LSU. A&M took the opener, 6-2, behind a three-hit complete game from freshman Samantha Show. In Sunday's rubber match, A&M defeated the Tigers, 9-5.
Freshman Keeli Milligan continues to lead the nation in stolen bases with 34, while hitting .385 at the top of the lineup. Sophomore Tori Vidales is hitting .410 with eight home runs and 27 RBI, while senior Cali Lanphear has eight home runs and a team-high 39 RBI. Sophomore Kristen Cuyos leads the SEC in home runs with 10.
In the circle, Show is 16-3 with a 2.91 ERA and 97 strikeouts. Sophomore Trinity Harrington is 4-0 with a 1.24 ERA and senior Katie Marks is 7-0 with a 2.07 ERA.
Georgia is currently 26-5 (1-2 SEC) on the season and is coming off a 9-0 win against Georgia Southern Wednesday. Over the weekend, the Bulldogs took the first game at South Carolina, 4-1, but dropped Sunday and Monday's games on back-to-back walk-off homers.
Cortni Emanuel leads the Bulldog offense with a .510 average, while Tina Iosefa is hitting .392 with nine dingers and 42 RBI. Chelsea Wilkinson holds a 13-2 record with a 2.22 ERA, and Brittany Gray is 8-3 with a 2.32 ERA.
Friday's game will begin at 5 p.m., while Saturday and Sunday's games are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
All games can be seen on the SEC Network +, available through WatchESPN and the ESPN app and can be heard locally on KWBC 1550 AM or online at www.RadioAggieland.com.
