
No. 5 Texas A&M downs Fresno State, 14-2, at NCEA Championships

WACO, Texas – No. 5 Texas A&M defeated No. 12 Fresno State, 14-2, Thursday in the first round of the NCEA Championships at the Extraco Events Center.
"I am very impressed with how we performed today," head coach Tana McKay said. "We came out with great effort and teamwork by all. We have another tough test tomorrow, and our girls are ready for the challenge."
The Aggies (10-6) took an early 4-0 lead after Reining. Senior Logan Pluhar earned the first point with a 134.5-133.5 victory over Sydney Ellis. Senior Hannah Jechow defeated Alysa Frias, 137.5-134, before senior Ashley Dotson topped Taylor Dixon, 146-0. Junior Sarah Kate Grider edged out Taylor Brown, 143-142, to close out the event.
A&M won Equitation on the Flat, 3-1, to take a 7-1 lead at the midway point. Senior Hannah Williams bettered Kylina Chalack, 137-134, to begin the event as senior Marlena Parker defeated Sierra Swaffar, 146-131. Sophomore Alex Desiderio recorded a 150-135 win over Alexandra Dirickson.
Senior Carolyn Day kicked off Horsemanship with a 141-139.5 victory against Dixon. Sophomore Avery Ellis toppled Rachel Williams, 150.5-144.5, before Pluhar gave the Aggies a 10-2 lead, defeating Taeya Harle, 147.5-142.
In Equitation over Fences, sophomore Rachael Hake topped Alexandria Drickson, 158-119, prior to Desiderio defeating Paige Pastorino, 152-147.5. Parker earned her second point of the day with a 161-132 win over Swaffar, before freshman Rebekah Chenelle defeated Kylina Chalack, 154-146, to close the meet.
