No. 16 Texas A&M falls to No. 12 LSU, 5-4, at SEC Tournament

STARKVILLE, Miss. – The No. 16 Texas A&M softball team fell to No. 12 LSU, 5-4, Wednesday in the first round of the SEC Tournament at Nusz Park.
"Obviously that was a disappointing loss for us going into the seventh with a two-run lead," head coach Jo Evans said. "Our pitchers were doing a great job. We are frustrated with the result, because we played the game well. We had a couple of miscues early on, but we made some big plays, especially that double play in the fifth inning to get ourselves out of the inning. I think it came back to haunt us, leaving runners on third early on. We had the right people up in key situations. We just weren't able to put the game away."
LSU took an early 2-0 lead, scoring an unearned run in the first before Bailey Landry hit an RBI single in the second.
The Aggies responded in the third with three runs on sophomore Ashley Walters' 10th home run of the season. Freshman Keeli Milligan led off the inning with an infield single and advanced to second on a freshman Kaitlyn Alderink single. After sophomore Tori Vidales reached on a fielder's choice, Walters blasted the seventh pitch of her at bat over the wall in center.
Texas A&M added to its lead in the fifth as sophomore Kristen Cuyos recorded a two-out RBI single to left, plating Alderink, who led off the inning with a double.
The Tigers rallied in the seventh, scoring three runs on four hits for the win.
Sophomore Trinity Harrington suffered the loss to move to 7-8 on the season. The sophomore righty threw six innings, giving up nine hits, five runs, three earned, with two strikeouts.
The Aggies will learn their postseason destination on Sunday as the 2016 NCAA Division I Softball Championship bracket will be announced on ESPNU at 9 p.m.
