Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate on Tap for Aggie Golf
Oct 19, 2017 | Men's Golf
ALPHARETTA, Ga. – Seeking a fourth-consecutive tournament victory to begin the 2017-18 season, the top-ranked Texas A&M men's golf team returns to action this weekend at the 12th annual Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate at the Golf Club of Georgia, hosted by Georgia Tech.
"This is one of our favorite tournaments of the fall," Texas A&M head coach J.T. Higgins said. "We usually build our schedule around Olympia Fields and the Golf Club of Georgia. This is a great golf course and one of the strongest fields we'll see all year. It's been a good place for us, our guys know the course well and we're looking forward to getting back out there."
The event will feature 54 holes of competition over three days on the Golf Club of Georgia's Lakeside Course, which will be set up to play at par 72 and 7,017 yards. During Friday's opening round, the Aggies begin teeing off at 9:41 a.m. and be paired alongside golfers from Clemson and Oklahoma.
The Aggies ascended to the top of Bushnell Golfweek Coaches Poll after carding wins in each of their first three events of the season -- the Badger Invitational (Sept. 10-12), OFCC Fighting Illini Invitational (Sept. 15-17) and the Marquette Intercollegiate (Oct. 1-3). Texas A&M, along with Kentucky, stand out as the only two unbeaten men's teams in collegiate golf.
Representing Texas A&M in the Peach State will be seniors, Andrew Paysse and Cameron Champ, junior Chandler Phillips and sophomores, Josh Gliege and Brandon Smith. The Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate will be the season debut for Champ, who captured All-America honors alongside Phillips last season.
