
No. 11 Texas A&M Hosts No. 2 Ohio State in Noon Showdown

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The No. 11 Texas A&M men's tennis team will host No. 2 Ohio State Sunday at noon at the George P Mitchell Tennis Center in College Station, TX. The match will pit two of the hottest teams in the country against each other, the Aggies (11-3) have won 10 straight matches while the Buckeyes come to town as winners in 16 of their 18 matches this season.
The Maroon & White extended their win streak to 10 matches Friday evening at Alabama. The Aggies claimed the doubles point to open the match and three singles matches in straight sets to dispatch of the Tide. Valentin Vacherot, was the second Aggie in the win column against Alabama. The French freshman won his team-best 10th straight match to improve to 12-2 this spring. Junior Jordi Arconada trails Vacherot's 10-match win streak with nine straight victories, the junior is 9-1 in dual matches and earned his first ITA ranking last week at No. 115.
Arconada's classmate, AJ Catanzariti, earned his first ever SEC Player of the Week honor Wednesday afternoon. The Pittsburgh, Penn. native, won both singles matches he played last weekend to help the Aggies defeat Vanderbilt and No. 18 Kentucky. Catanzariti defeated No. 25 Ryotaro Matsumura to claim the highest ranked victory of his career.
Ohio State comes in with a record of 16-2 with its losses coming at then No. 1 Virginia and Thursday evening to No. 8 Texas. OSU has gone 11-2 in matchups against ranked teams this season. During the ITA National Indoor Championships, the Buckeyes faced three of the other four teams in the current top-5. There, they defeated No. 5 Oklahoma State, and No. 1 Wake Forest, before losing to No. 3 (then No. 1) Virginia in the finals. No. 1 Mikael Torpegaard is 15-0 this season on court 1 in dual-match play. He has wins over seven top-25 players, including then No. 1 Petros Chrysochos of Wake Forest.
Following the showdown with the Buckeyes, Texas A&M will host Tennessee on Thursday at the Mitchell Tennis Center at 6p.m. (CT). - Texas A&M returns eight lettermen from last year's squad that hosted an NCAA Regional and finished the season ranked No. 14 in the final ITA Rankings.
- Included in the group is junior Arthur Rinderknech who began the spring season ranked No. 16 in the singles poll and No. 7 alongside senior Max Lunkin in the doubles poll. Rinderknech earned singles and doubles All-America honors after appearing in the NCAA Doubles Championship match alongside Jackson Withrow last summer and finishing the season ranked No. 20 in the final singles ranking.
- Also returning this season will be Lunkin, AJ Catanzariti, Jordi Arconada and Aleksandre Bakshi. All four featured regularly in the lineup last season and are set to be mainstays in the Maroon & White lineup again this spring. Seniors Frankie Colunga and James Martell look to take advantage of their final season in College Station.
- The final members of head coach Steve Denton's roster are freshman Hady Habib and Valentin Vacherot. Habib, a Houston native, joins a loaded Aggie lineup and his talent was evident during the fall season where Habib collected eight singles victories and six doubles triumphs. Vacherot, the first cousin of Rinderknech, comes to Aggieland after advancing to the finals of the Tunisia F24 Futures in September and the right-hander picked up ATP points at the Tunisia F25, Slovak Republic F3, Tunisia F23 and the France F13.

- Denton's 219 career triumphs in Aggieland trail Omar Smith's 275 wins and David Kent's 318 victories, while his winning percentage (68.9) trails only Tim Cass on the all-time ledger (196-83, 70.3%). Smith captained the Aggies from 1960-1974, while Kent was at the helm from 1979-1996 and Cass lead the charge from 1997-2006.
