COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The 25th-ranked Texas A&M women's tennis team looks to get back into the win column this weekend as the Aggies head to Mississippi to conclude a four-match road swing at No. 24 Mississippi State and No. 28 Ole Miss, Friday and Sunday, respectively. First serve against the Bulldogs is at 3 p.m. at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre in Starkville, and the match against the Rebels begins at 1 p.m. at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center in Oxford.
"Mississippi State and Ole Miss both have both had a very good season," Texas A&M head coach Mark Weaver said. "I expect each match to be challenging, and we will need to play some good tennis this weekend. We have had some very good days of practice, and our team will be ready to compete come Friday and Sunday."
The Aggies are 10-9 on the season, including 2-5 in SEC matches only after dropping a 4-0 decision in a nonconference match at 15th-ranked Baylor on Wednesday and a 4-2 setback at No. 16 LSU on Saturday.
Mississippi State, 11-5 overall and 4-4 in SEC play, had lost only one game during a three-match winning streak before falling at No. 3 Georgia, 4-0, on Sunday.
Ole Miss went 0-2 last weekend, falling at Georgia, 4-2 and suffering a 4-3 loss at Tennessee to drop to 11-7 overall and 2-5 in league play.
Texas A&M owns a combined 12-1 all-time series record against its two upcoming opponents. The Aggies improved to 6-0 all-time against Mississippi State with a 5-2 victory over the then-No. 28 Bulldogs last year in College Station. Texas A&M also defeated then-No. 27 Ole Miss last year at the Mitchell Tennis Center to win its fourth consecutive meeting against the Rebels. Ole Miss' only victory against the Aggies was in the 2012 season opener, the year before the Aggies joined the SEC.
In the individual ITA national rankings, Texas A&M senior Rachel Pierson is a season-high No. 39 with a team-leading 19-10 record overall. Senior Rutuja Bhosale is No. 91 in singles and leads the Aggies in total wins in dual matches only with a 10-7 mark in.
Bhosale and Pierson are No. 12 in doubles, marking the highest ranking the duo has ever received. The tandem, 7-4 against nationally ranked opponents, is riding a four-match win streak and is 21-6 overall, including 10-4 in dual matches, all at the No. 1 line.
Jasmine Lee leads Mississippi State with a 13-2 record at the No. 1 line, including a 6-1 ledger in SEC matches only. She is ranked No. 32 in the national singles rankings and she is 11th in the nation in doubles with partner Lisa Marie Rioux. The pair is 12-3 at the top of the lineup, including 5-2 in league play.
Ole Miss boasts two ranked singles players: No. 71 Arianne Hartono and No. 82 Natalie Suk. Hartono is 13-10 overall in singles, including 8-7 in dual matches only. Suk is 12-15 overall and 5-8 in dual matches only. Hartono is ranked 27th in doubles with Anna Vrbenska. The pair is 7-6 in dual matches, including 1-4 in SEC matches only.
