Sixth-Seeded Women’s Golf Opens NCAA Columbus Regional Monday
May 07, 2017 | Women's Golf
COLUMBUS, Ohio- The sixth-seeded Texas A&M women's golf team opens their 17th straight postseason appearance at the NCAA Columbus Regional from May 8-10 at The Ohio State University Golf Club's Scarlet Course. The top six teams in the field of 18 advance to the NCAA Championships at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Ill.
The Aggies are looking for their 10th trip to the NCAA Championship in the past 14 seasons, most recently advancing to the championships in 2015. The Aggies have had three NCAA Top 10 finishes in that span, and have finished 18th-or-better in five of the past seven years.
"I think we've done a pretty good job of preparing for this tournament," said Texas A&M head coach Trelle McCombs. "We are going to treat this like any other weekend, and go out there trying to play well and win the tournament, then finishing in the top six will take care of itself."
The Aggies' lineup features three golfers who received season honors from the SEC last week and three seniors. Junior Maddie Szeryk leads the Aggies to the par 72 / 6,416 yard course after receiving First Team All-SEC honors for the third straight year. Szeryk is fourth nationally, and on pace to break the Texas A&M single-season record with a 70.54 stroke average.
Bianca Fabrizio, who was named Second Team All-SEC, leads a trio of seniors into their final postseason at Texas A&M. Thanya Pattamakijsakul and Andrea Jonama round out the seniors in the lineup, a class that won the 2015 SEC Championship, has two NCAA top 20 finishes, and has more birdies than any class in school history.
Courtney Dow, who was selected to the SEC All-Freshman team, completes the Aggies' lineup for the three day, 54 hole tournament. Dow's 72.88 stroke average is the third-best for an Aggie in school history.
The Aggies tee off starting at 7:24 a.m. CT on Monday. Live scoring is available on golfstat.com.
