Top-Ranked Aggies Face No. 7 South Carolina in Home Opener
Sep 28, 2017 | Equestrian
COLLEGE STATION – The No. 1 Texas A&M equestrian team hosts No. 7 South Carolina for its home and conference opener Friday at 11 a.m. at the Hildebrand Equine Complex. Admission to the meet is free.
"Coming off our two wins in California, we had a great week of practice," head coach Tana McKay said. "However, we know that nothing is easy in these SEC meets. South Carolina is a good team and we know that we have to perform at our best. Our girls are excited to be at home on familiar horses that we know very well. I am looking forward to seeing how the girls can compete in our first SEC meet of the season."
The Aggies (2-0) are coming off a 14-5 victory at No. 9 Fresno State and a 12-4 win against South Dakota State last weekend. The Hunt Seat team dominated in the Sunshine State, outscoring the Bulldogs and Jackrabbits, 17-1.
Against Fresno State, Rachael Hake was named Most Outstanding Player in both Equitation over Fences and Equitation on the Flat. The Washington, Mich., native defeated Monica Zorowski, 90-65, in Flat and topped Sierra Swaffar, 84-77, in Fences. Alex Desiderio tied the school record for the highest score in Flat with a 95-79 win over SDSU's Taylor Duerr, and Rebekah Chenelle earned MOP honors in Fences with an 83-60 victory against SDSU's Jessica Martinez.
In the Western arena, Ashley Davidson and Kalee McCann recorded their first-career MOPs against South Dakota State. Davidson scored a team-high 77 in Horsemanship, bettering Mariah Wright's 73.5, while McCann scored a 70.5 to defeat Miranda Sullivan's 70 in Reining.
